 All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, according to Dr. Otto Warburg, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1931, for his work on cancer.  

“Deprive a cell of 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous”. That is, when cells become anaerobic, they also become acidic. Cancer cells thrive in an oxygen deprived, acidic environment, but cannot survive in an aerobic, alkaline environment.

Otto Warburg, one of the twentieth century’s leading cell biologists, discovered that the root cause of cancer is too much acidity in the body. Meaning that the pH, potential hydrogen in the body is below the normal level of 7.365, which constitutes an “acidic” state. He firmly believed there was a relationship between pH and oxygen. Higher pH, which is alkaline, means higher concentration of oxygen molecules, while lower pH, which is acidic, means lower concentration of oxygen…the same oxygen that is needed to maintain healthy cells.

This information has been available, even if out of sight, for over 80 years, if not back to the time of Hippocrates?! Almost 500 thousand people died of cancer last year (2013) in the United States. When and where do you EVER hear about this basic information that relates to what contributes to why cancer develops, and how to create an unfavorable environment for cancer to live in? Nowhere! People “fly by the seat of their pants” and hope they don’t end up with a cancer diagnoses. With some simple understandings, we should and can be more proactive about preventing cancer.

The reason I don’t contribute to breast walks and the cancer research institutes, has nothing to do with a lack of desire to help out. It has to do with the very fact that basic information that has been available for decades is being overlooked, in favor of billions and billions of dollars spent to develop drugs to combat an issue once it occurs. My goodness, the very plastic bottles that women and men drink out of when they go on breast cancer sponsored walks, often contain dioxins, Bisphenol A (bpa), and other chemicals known to contribute to the very development of breast cancer itself.

This is all very frustrating when you realize that many well-intentioned researchers, doctors and others are missing, at the very least, one of the primary cornerstones of understanding about cancer development. Like looking for a lost child and continually missing existing signposts that point you in the right direction.

One of the best ways to assess your pH is by getting some good (broad range) pH test strips (available from Herbs & More, 760 753-7272, some health food stores and many drug stores) and checking your urine pH, more reliable than saliva. Refer to my brief article link below, on just how to get your baseline pH, what the ranges should be and what times of day are best to check, in order to assess properly. Once you have established what your baseline pH is…go about the business of amending and improving it, so that it is more consistently in the proper range. Most of our population runs acidic. Stress, acid-forming foods, sodas, alcohol, etc., etc., etc., all correlate to acidity. Because our top soils are so depleted of mineral richness, our alkaline mineral reserves that buffer acids, tend to be very low reserves. One secret is to eat more mineral rich vegetables…the king of foods on the planet, although we need much more than the veggie group to thrive.
